Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has pushed ahead, deploying seven new
IT systems to GP practices and healthcare community settings, just two weeks
after the transfer of the contract to deliver the NHS National Programme
for IT in the North East and East of England took place to deliver an integrated
electronic patient record throughout England.
On 8 January, CSC assumed Local Service Provider responsibility for NPfIT in
these regions, in addition to the North West and West Midlands regions where
CSC has managed the contract for the last three years. It transferred 400 staff
to CSC management and they continue working from Leeds-based offices thus ensuring
business as usual for the NHS clients in the North East and East of England.
CSC’s Primary Care Director, Leigh Donoghue said: “It is a significant
achievement to deliver this Primary Care IT Solution to these seven NHS organisations
at such an early stage of the transfer of the contract to CSC. We have been able
to show our NHS clients that the pace of delivery has continued, assuring them
that the move to a fully integrated patient records system will be realised.”
South Yorkshire based Rotherham Primary Care Trust (PCT) was the first NHS organisation
to go-live with the SystmOne Community solution under CSC management. This was
followed by North Kirklees PCT, that went live with its Child Health solution.
Additionally, five GP practices have had new systems deployed: one in Essex,
one in Northamptonshire and three in the Yorkshire region.
Helen Springer, TPP Project Manager, said: "It's great to have deployed SystmOne
across three different healthcare settings in one week with CSC. Of the seven
units which went live on SystmOne last week, one was community, one was child
health and five were GP practices. This is another step towards achieving TPP's
goal of integrated patient care."
CSC’s integrated Primary Care Solution gives GP Practices and PCTs a suite
of products that can manage all administration activities such as patient home
visit requests, staff rotas, pathology & blood results and patient appointments,
and offers compatibility to allow NHS organisations to share administrative and
clinical data in the future.
Momentum is building with many more PCT solutions being rolled out across CSC’s
regions in the coming months.
