TPP is this year working on a number of developments which see third-party technology solutions integrated with SystmOne, with the aim of streamlining processes for clinicians, making their working lives easier, and reducing paper.
A clinical system isn't the only piece of technology available to clinicians on a day-to-day basis: diagnostic equipment such as ECG machines and spirometers, and electronic resources for clinical decision and prescribing support all receive high levels of use. As technology continues to develop, it will play a more and more dominant role in healthcare, with more applications and resources becoming available. Our aim at TPP is to identify the solutions used by our users and integrate them with SystmOne.
Integration with third-party applications means that all the resources used by clinicians are brought together, and are available in one place - at the user's fingertips. By speaking directly to SystmOne, data from external solutions (e.g. ECG results) can be saved directly to the patient record - no need for the user to manually input them. The integration of support resources such as Map of Medicine, CKS Patient Information Leaflets and ScriptSwitch saves time by automatically launching searches - no need for users to open a separate piece of software or website and manually initiate a search.
Each integration saves users time by making their processes quicker and bringing disparate resources together. Already, third-party integration is allowing clinicians to request pathology test results electronically, dispensers to order stock electronically, and admin staff to file Adastra out-of-hours reports and send SMS appointment reminders all through SystmOne.
Work is currently in progress on the integration of several new solutions, including two handheld versions of SystmOne, diagnostic equipment such as ECG machines and spirometers, and several new ways in which patients can manage their appointments - via the internet, digital television, and an automated telephone service.
