SystmOne to Integrate with Medusa

The Medusa Siren ePCR ™ Suite being deployed to ambulances across the North, East and Midlands by CSC is to be integrated with SystmOne.

Patient Care Reports and ECGs taken in the ambulance will be electronically transmitted to SystmOne. Like Non-SystmOne Out of Hours Incident Reports and Hospital Discharge Letters, the report will enter SystmOne as a Task. When actioned, the report will be filed to the patient record.

Toughbook in use in ambulance

The Siren ePCR ™ Suite links to the NHS Spine, giving paramedics access to a patient record summary, including relevant data like blood pressure readings. Paramedics can then record information about the care they have provided and attach ECG results. Their report is then transmitted to SystmOne to ensure ongoing continuity of care.

CSC has committed to equip all ambulances in the North, East and Midlands with the Medusa software. This equates to 60% of ambulances in the country, handling over 5 million electronic patient care records each year.

Speaking about the Medusa system, in May 2007, Dr John Scott, Medical Director for East of England Ambulance trust, said, "This system allows us to capture quickly and accurately far more information than we ever could on paper. That information is then instantly available to the Emergency Department and Clinical Audit staff. As a result, the potential to improve patient outcomes is tremendous."

With ambulance staff recording data  electronically, and that data being integrated into the SystmOne patient record, more information than ever before will be available for clinicians providing ongoing care.
