General Practitioner
The London Road Surgery

SystmOne helps me in doing my job.

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon with an analyst from Essex CHD Primary Prevention Team who has been visiting practices to run reports on their clinical systems to find patients most at risk from CHD. She commented that the practice she had visited the previous day had the best system for running the reports and finding these patients that she had seen and was very pleased to discover that we also had this system. TPP SystmOne!

The way SystmOne runs reports is straightforward, the reports are easy to set up and the results are returned quickly. It works faster and is clearer than any other clinical system. I’m pleased that we have one of the best systems.

I like the good internal messaging service that SystmOne provides. It means that instead of communicating by sending pieces of paper all over the practice, we can send tasks to each other, which then become part of the patient’s permanent record.

SystmOne has an excellent appointment booking system. I find it very clear.

The GMS reports on SystmOne are very clear. I can see straightaway what is missing, so I can make lists in order to review my findings.

I like the way I can set up waiting lists on SystmOne for things like minor operations or the diabetic clinic. We can then easily see what work is outstanding and can arrange the appropriate clinics.

The way SystmOne is set out is good. I can view a lot of information quickly. I particularly like the way that blood test results are recorded. They are shown very clearly on a nice table, with correct results in green and abnormal results in red. I can show this table to the patient so that they can see and understand it. For the same reason, I like to use SystmOne’s clinical tools, ‘Ideal Weight based on Height’, ‘Smoker Life Expectancy’ and ‘CHD Risk Calculator’. I use these in every consultation. The CHD Risk Calculator uses relevant parameters such as blood pressure and whether the patient is a smoker, and clearly shows how these affect CHD risk. It’s a visual demonstration to patients of how small changes in lifestyle can make a big difference, how stopping smoking, or lowering their blood pressure can enhance their health. Seeing this demonstrated so clearly on the screen means that patients can take that information on board and buy into the concept of changing. SystmOne helps me in doing my job.

I like SystmOne’s GMS alerts. They enable me to see what needs to be done. While a patient is sitting down, sorting themselves out, I can ask them the relevant questions, then just right-click, perform an action and sort it out.

I really like the ability to search in the New Journal on SystmOne. It’s great for finding information that would otherwise be difficult to spot in long records. Similarly, I like the ability to filter on Read code.

At London Road, we have used SystmOne to create our own forms for blood pressure, microbiology and X-rays. While the patient is having their blood pressure taken, I can simply print off the relevant form and sign it rather than having to handwrite it. So many blood tests are being done in practices now that to handwrite all of them would take weeks off the working year. SystmOne prints out these forms and saves so much time. Nothing I’ve introduced to the practice has been taken up as quickly as this. I rolled this out at three o’clock one afternoon and by nine-thirty the following morning, everyone in the practice was using it and seeing the benefit.

SystmOne has a chatroom which I use a lot. When I have a comment or suggestion about SystmOne, I register it on Chatrooms so that TPP can see it. A lot of my suggestions have been taken up already, which is great. TPP respond very quickly and they do try to take on board what the users say.

SystmOne is really becoming an integrated package. Thanks for all your work over the years in developing it as a useful paperless tool.
